Single-Twist Stranding Line for Ultra Flexible Cables Screening

The cables employed in high-tech sectors, such as the aeronautical one, are characterized by extreme flexibility and accuracy in their lay-length and, in case of the screening process, a single-twist cable stranding machine is required to reach the maximum performances.

According to the working preferences and the cable specifications provided by the Customer, WTM machine is tailored to the production requirements; the cable quality, achieved thanks to our accurate tension control on both wire and tape and to the precise stranding pitch, will guarantee the Customer excellence in its branch.

The single-shaft model stands out for a smooth deposition path, obtained by angles and pulleys properly designed to bend the cable during the winding phase the least possible, and the principle of “low-stress” wire-guide, that erases the reversing stress on the cable: these two key points make this solution ideal for these complex and sensitive cables.

The machine here presented is composed by:

  • a DIN 630 backtwist pay-off, equipped with dancer tension control;
  • a stranding star, designed according to the final product requirement;
  • a rotating capstan for a perfect pulling control;
  • a single-twist stranding machine, suitable for reels DIN 630 too.

The cable to be shielded, taken from the unwinding reel, is pulled by the capstan with programmed linear speed and rotated on itself, and then finally collected in the reel of the single-twist collecting unit. Before entering the rotating capstan, up to 96 copper-coated wires are taken from an unwinding creel and applied, through a stranding star, on the surface of the conductor; the cable is thus spiraled with an almost total coverage of its surface.

Differently from the braiding process, shielding a conductor by means of this spiraling process guarantees a high production speed and allows to obtain a final product with very high flexibility.
